  I want to be appointed as an Elder while I am still posting here, will Holy Spirit prevent me?

  just curious.. has anyone successfully tested the 'power' of the holy spirit by being appointed even though they were not zealous jw's?.

  once i get appointed, i'd resign within a week.

  'coz i would'nt stand jc's and df'ing people..

  I agree with cantleave:

  1) HS has squat to do with appointments. I just heard that a "Dexter" loving, alcholic masturbator just got reappointed after 2 years out. The reappointment had nothing to do with the aformentioned "issues" which only a few of us in my family know about. I would literally vomit if I heard he is giving parts on the need to avoid violent shows, moderate use of alchol and self control.

  2) JC's are soul destroying. If there is one thing that stresses me out its knowing I was part of a sham that destroyed peoples lives. I am seriously thinking of seeking all those I can and apologizing. At least I had some staisfaction being part of appeal committees that over-turned a few stupid decisions.

  Don't bother - there are better things to do with your time than dealing with issues fron inside goldfish bowl which is where you and your family will be put - either that or under a microscope. Add to that the wasteful so called "brief" elder meetings, having to take time off when the CO comes, Elder Schools held at the one time in the year whn you can actually get a break from things - Xmas. I could go on and on......

  i've always been told that i have a very good personality, that i'm humorous, etc.. one elder called me over and said that i was "smiling too much".

  the other elders talked to the elder who counseled me and he came back to say that i should be like i was .

  Blondie: One did (whom I got along with after that very well) - the other (who never liked me and was always on my case) just cleared his throat and nodded in tacit agreement. It was suggested that I go to the sister and explain which I disagreed with. I suggested to the miserable one that he go back and explain as she came to him. "Seemingness of adultery" - sure found in 2nd Corinthians 14...

  I was counseled for the "seemingness of adultery" - a fake bipolared, fibromyalgied, chemical sensitive, nod at every talk statement sister saw me having lunch with a woman whom I was seen hugging and giving a kiss on her cheek. After letting the "two" elders prattle on for about a 1/2hr (yes, they dove right in, not even giving me a chance to say anything) about the dangers of allowing these things to go to far I told them that it was my cousin visiting from the US - we had lunch at a hotel before she headed out to the airport. Had the sister been that bit more observant she would have seen my wife in the car out front, whom had left the lunch about 15 minutes before to get our car to take her to the airport.....I am sooooo glad that I am now 1 month away from being inactive and not having been at at meetings for 5 months as well.

  There are topics and posts like the ones posted here that have me asking - why was I such an idiot to get my family involved in this? I consider myself a reasonably smart individual - but I must have been brain-dead in the early 80's - residual effects of a misspent youth and drugs in the 60'70's?

  the content of the program presented at the circuit assembly: safeguard your spirituality served as a re-affirmation that the wt/gb is loosing the grip of rank & file.

  they are becoming boulder and boulder in their blatant use of mind control techniques; in my opinion, their mind control techniques used to be more subtle.

  but the content of the program in this past assembly clearly reflected that they are acting out of frustration and desperation.

  Elders School 2010/11

  had some fun recently talking to an elder i know and he mentioned about the elders school he would be going to in december.

  you should have seen his face when i said i bet he was looking forward to the new elders manual that he would be getting...

  If you were an elder, how many judicial committees were you on, (if you can even remember how many)

  i was trying to calculate the number and i lost track at 30-something.

  now i was an elder for 15 years, so i was wondering how that figured for averages among others..

  About 30 - 40 in 25 years. I deliberately avoided (using the "can't be objective line as I know br/sr______") for any apostasy, circumstantial fornication/adultery or loose conduct cases - there was always a lack of "evidence". I would rather sit on the ones where someone confessed and thus did my hardest to empathize and help them. The blatant ones - well, I tried hard. I feel pretty bad about the ones where the result was D/F.

  Did you use your holiday/vacation to have a holiday from the JW's?

  looking back, one of the reasons i used to love getting away was because it allowed me to have a gulit free holiday from the meetings.

  i loved arriving somewhere, where no one knew me, my own cong didn't know where i was, if i was attending the meetings or not.

  i could just go out on a meeting night, do what i wanted have a meal out with a bottle of wine and no one would ever know!.

  Totally. As if I am going to give up the chance to see some great places so that I can hear the same stuff, at the same time and recieve the same treatment in FS as I do at home? I knew of one family who always did the quick drive by to the local KH on Saturday so that they could bump into a few JW's and say "Hi". Then at the next meeting after their vacation bring back BS "Love and Greetings from the WhoGivesARatsArse Cong in GuessWhereWeWere"

  What year Did you Stop Attending Meetings - How Long were you a JW ?

  i'm trying to compare some statistics and figures on this to share later in the thread to see if more long-time witnesses are exiting- or are newer witnesses exiting after a shorter period of time.

  and - are more people exiting in the last 10 to 15 years than before.

  so your answers would be helpful in looking into this .

The reason it does not show up in the bible? Birthdays are a realtively new phenomena around the 18th century in popular culture.

  Real reason: like Xmas, Easter, New Year, Mothers day, Fathers Day, Velentine's, etc - $$$$ not going into the pockets of WTBT$.
